Catch of the Day

I have had this sculpture floating around in my head for the better part of a year.  I began by cutting 1/2″ plywood into the wings shape.  I attached with wood screws an angled 2×4 to the plywood.  Next came the aluminum foil to bulk out the head shape.  I drilled holes in the 2×4 that formed the neck and inserted sculptors wire for the tentacles.  Each tentacle was bulked up with aluminum foil.  I painted glass cabochons on the inverse side for the eyes.  Next came the Apoxie Sculpt.  After sculpting was complete I primed it with black paint.  I used a combination of acrylic paints and varying brush techniques for the final look.

The final sculpt weighs approximately 50 lbs. and is 32″x36″x14″ in dimensions.  The sculpt will debut for the first time at GaryCon 2017.

  1. It’s an amazing piece David! I’m pretty sure it was breathing when I saw it at GaryCon. 😉 Anyone who has not had the good fortune to meet you and see your booth in person should absolutely make the effort to see you at the nearest convention. It was a fantastic honor to have had the opportunity to chat with you.
